Sur une place publique maltaise, nous pouvons apercevoir une sculpture. Vous vous diriez peut-être : « Et alors ? Des sculptures, on en voit de toute sorte sur d’innombrables places publiques ! » Et en effet, vous auriez raison sur ce point, mais vous auriez tort de penser que celle dont nous parlons est comme les autres.

Si son esthétique sublime ne laisse déjà aucun doute sur son originalité, c’est surtout son histoire nous renvoyant au plus fort des relations franco-maltaises qui va définitivement vous conquérir. Allons donc à la découverte de cette œuvre à travers cette vidéo que nous avons préparée pour vous, en coopération avec Heritage Malta et le musée d’art MUŻA.

French language: the Francophonie has got its new baby

Great news for the lovers of the language of Molière! By the first quarter of 2022, the French-speaking world will welcome what would be considered as one of its most beautiful jewels: the Cité internationale de la langue française.

Located in the Château de Villers-Cotterêts, in the town holding the same name in the department of Aisne, France, the Cité will be a place for artistic talents, cultural events, research, training and innovation, with the main goal of promoting French and Francophone cultures.

Travel through time and space…

Indeed, the great lovers of the French language will have the opportunity to discover several exhibitions and tours that will trace its history, its evolution over time and its relationship with other languages of the world, among other topics of interest.

Besides, a constantly renewed program will offer the visitors of the Cité the originalities of the various Francophone cultures through artistic performances of all kinds. They will therefore have the chance to travel through the 29 countries and the numerous communities of the francophone world, while roaming around only one place. In other words, once at the Château de Villers-Cotterêts: one will not be going to the world; the world will be coming to him/her.

Culture, training, research, innovation…

The project of the Cité internationale de la langue française is supported by several French government ministries, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. In addition to promoting culture, it is also expected that a substantial part of the activities will be devoted not only to French language training for teachers and learners (children, young adults, allophones), but also to research and innovation in the fields of French linguistics and language training.

Langue française : la Francophonie tient son nouveau bébé

Excellente nouvelle pour les amoureux de la langue de Molière ! D’ici le premier trimestre de l’année 2022, le monde francophone accueillera ce qui pourra être considéré comme étant l’un de ses plus beaux joyaux : la Cité internationale de la langue française.

Devant siéger au château de Villers-Cotterêts, situé dans la ville portant le même nom dans le département de l’Aisne, cette Cité sera un haut-lieu d’expression de talents artistiques, de manifestations culturelles, de recherche, de formation et d’innovation, avec comme but principal la promotion du français et des cultures francophones.

Voyager dans le temps et dans l’espace…

En effet, les grands amateurs de la langue auront l’occasion d’y découvrir plusieurs expositions et parcours qui retraceront son histoire, son évolution dans le temps et sa relation avec les autres langues du monde, entre autres sujets d’intérêt.

Par ailleurs, une programmation constamment et savamment renouvelée offrira aux visiteurs de la Cité l’originalité des diverses cultures francophones à travers des prestations artistiques de tout genre. Ce sera ainsi l’opportunité rêvée pour voyager à travers les 29 pays et les nombreuses communautés francophones du monde, tout en demeurant au même endroit. En d’autres termes, une fois au château de Villers-Cotterêts : vous n’irez pas à la rencontre du monde ; le monde viendra à votre rencontre.

Culture, formation, recherche, innovation…

Le projet de la Cité internationale de la langue française est porté par plusieurs ministères du Gouvernement français, dont celui de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la recherche et de l’innovation. Au-delà de la promotion de la culture, il est aussi attendu qu’une partie des activités soit consacrée à la formation au français pour les enseignants et les apprenants (enfants, jeunes adultes, allophones), ainsi qu’à la recherche et à l’innovation dans les domaines de la linguistique française et de la formation à la langue.

A special Dictionary of French speakers is born

A language lives through its words and words exist through its speakers. This assertion could not be less representative of the French language, as the latter is home to a great linguistic diversity entailed by the various communities that speak, recreate and perpetuate it throughout the world. In order to highlight this richness, the French Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with several French and Francophone organizations, has implemented a project that culminated in the creation of the Dictionary of French Speakers (Dictionnaire des francophones – DDF).

The open-access Dictionnaire des francophones, which was officially launched last March 16th, counts 500,000 words and expressions from 52 different countries. You will therefore find terms from all the French-speaking areas of the world: France, Quebec, Senegal, Louisiana, Côte d’Ivoire, etc.

Furthermore, unlike traditional dictionaries, which generally prescribe the norms of the ‘correct French’, the DDF presents and describes terms according to their register and usage in different regions, in a way that you can identify the most suitable formulation in various communication situations.

For French speakers, by French speakers.

Moreover, the repertoire of this dictionary is expected to grow fast because French speakers and lovers of the French language are offered a space on the website where they can register and submit words and expressions which are not yet listed. These would first be investigated and then, depending on their relevance, they would be validated and published for consultation on the platform.

Basically, we have just witnessed the birth of the first-ever created collaborative dictionary, prepared for French speakers from all the regions of the world, by French speakers from all the regions of the world! Isn’t that wonderful?

Une langue vit à travers ses mots et les mots existent grâce à ses locuteurs. Cette règle constitue une force pour la langue française, car on retrouve en son sein une grande variété apportée par les diverses communautés qui la parlent, la recréent et la pérennisent dans le monde. Afin de mettre en avant cette si chère richesse, le ministère de la Culture, en collaboration avec plusieurs organisations françaises et francophones, a mis en œuvre un projet qui s’est conclu par la création du Dictionnaire des francophones (DDF).

Le français tel qu’il est employé dans le monde.

Le Dictionnaire des francophones, officiellement le 16 mars dernier et libre d’accès, regroupe 500 000 mots et expressions provenant de 52 pays différents. Vous y retrouverez donc des termes issus de toutes les localités francophones du monde, allant de la France au Canada ou encore du Sénégal à la Louisiane.

En outre, prenant un peu à contrepied la ligne de conduite des dictionnaires traditionnels, qui généralement prescrivent la norme du français correct, le DDF présente et décrit les termes selon leur registre et leur usage dans les différentes régions, afin de vous permettre d’identifier la formulation la plus adaptée pour diverses situations de communication. En cela réside son unicité.

Par ailleurs, le répertoire de ce dictionnaire est appelé à s’enrichir rapidement car les francophones et les amoureux de la langue française disposent d’un espace sur le site où ils peuvent s’inscrire afin de proposer des termes non encore recensés. Ceux-ci seront d’abord évalués puis, en fonction de leur pertinence, validés et rendus disponibles pour consultation sur la plateforme.

Nous voyons donc naître un dictionnaire collaboratif préparé pour les francophones, par les francophones ! Le goût de ça (comme on dirait en Côte d’Ivoire pour exprimer un grand ravissement concernant une nouvelle) !

Témoignage de Julian

Témoignage d’un élève de nos Cours d’été

L’Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée est fière de recevoir un témoignage d’un ancien élève, Julian.

Julian, 16 ans, étudie le Français depuis trois ans.

“During the summer of 2020, I decided to enrol to an online course hosted by the Alliance Française Malte-Méditerranée which would serve as a revision for the work done in Form 4 and to prepare me for my Form 5, as well as the SEC exam. The course also helped me obtain my DELF A2 diploma which was recommended to me by my teacher since it is an internationally recognised certificate of the French language, a very important tool in the world we are living in.

The course, albeit online, was very helpful and together with Ms. Victoria Monseigneur, we covered many examples of DELF-style questions in order to prepare ourselves for the exam. During the course, we were also given the opportunity to answer some difficulties the class had been having and to ask about and discuss several key aspects from the French language. During our lessons, we have tackled some grammar points and French culture which would be useful for our SEC examination, only a couple of months away.

In the end, the course proved to be very successful and when the DELF exam came in September, I was well-prepared and got a 92% mark. For me, this is a great privilege of having the opportunity of learning the French language and getting my A2 diploma in less than 24 months. To this, I would like to thank my school teacher, Ms. Isabelle Colin, my teacher at the summer course of Alliance, Ms. Victoria as well as the entire team at the Alliance Française Malte-Méditerranée for the sterling work they do with people of all ages to help them achieve success in the French language, in the same way they managed to help me not only improve my skills in the language but also to make me love the French language even more!”

The Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée is proud to receive a testimony from a former student, Julian.
