Respire

THE cultural festival of the summer !

From 15th of June to 15th of July

Organised by the French Embassy in Malta and the Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée, the festival Respir(e)! France & Malta celebrates culture, French language and Franco-Maltese relations. Respire! which means “breathe” in French, will gather many artistic, sporting and cultural events in Malta and Gozo, for you to breathe again!

After months marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, cultural life in Malta is starting again, and we all feel the need to go out and gather around beautiful events.

Our Franco-Maltese cultural season entitled Respire! was born out of this desire for freedom, creation and artistic stimulation.

The festival, which runs from mid-June to mid-July, will feature around 20 events in Malta and Gozo celebrating arts, culture and sport.

Respire! is a festival jointly organised by the French Embassy in Malta and the Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée, with the active support of a variety of French and Maltese partners including cultural centers, sports and stationery shops, restaurants hotels, a sailing race…

This cultural season was made possible by the financial support of generous sponsors and French companies based in the Maltese islands, who mobilised very quickly for this project. The first event of the season took place at the Surfside in Sliema on Tuesday 15 June, on the occasion of the Euro 2021.

The France-Germany football game was broadcasted and brought together more than 80 French and Maltese supporters who were able to take part in quizzes and games. While respecting sanitary restrictions, this festive event was an opportunity to cheer the French team all together.

Respire! will be launched by the French Ambassador in Malta H.E. Brigitte Curmi on Monday 21 June, on the occasion of the Fête de la Musique.

French singer-songwriter Charles-Baptiste will then perform at the Storeroom in Ta’ Xbiex and in Gozo the following day.

Throughout the summer season, artistic events (French film screenings at the Spazju Kreattiv Cinema, concerts) will mingle with sporting events (the Bailli de Suffren race between Saint-Tropez and Birgu), conferences and debates (on the Mediterranean, on freedom of expression).
