Le défi inter AF 

Competition 

The international competition on French and francophone culture that made waves among the students of AF all over the world is back with its 5th edition.

The challenge will have 4 rounds: local, national, regional rounds and an international final. A grand prize of stay in Nice is waiting for selected participants to the international final!

The local round will be happening on 28th April – 6 pm, online. Registration till of 26th April.

You can sign up for the contest if you are:

  • Currently student of Alliance Française and passed A1 level
  • Be at least 18 years old on July 15, 2025

Vocal and Harp Performance by Soprano – Gillian Zammit, singers from the Opera Nova Project: Mezzo Soprano – Nicole Vassallo, Tenor – Jester Rosales, Harpist – Anne Marie Camilleri Podesta’.

The audience will be fascinated with works by Massenet, Debussy, Berlioz, Gounod and Fauré

The Opera Nova Project

Founded by Gillian Zammit and Denise Mulholland with the aim of providing a holistic high level of musical education to exceptionally talented young local voice students and to create a local and international platform for these students.

In resonance with our upcoming exhibition “Écrire en Français” and as part of the “Printemps des Poètes” festival, the Alliance Française invites you to participate in an original French writing workshop.

Like the many authors featured in our exhibition, come and share your best travel memory in the form of a haiku. A haiku is an extremely brief Japanese poem that captures a present moment, sensations, or the passage of time.

Your stories will be hung in the exhibition!

Wifek Aouinet will give a public lecture in French on ‘Zénobie, Reine de Palmyre, Figure politique de l’Antiquité’.

Palmyra, a palm grove that lived to the rhythm of the caravans but also served as a marching post for the Roman Empire in its fight against the Persians, reached its apogee under the reign of Zenobia. Conqueror of Arabia and Egypt in the name of the Levantine god Baal, but wanting to make her son a Roman emperor, Zenobia was a key political figure on both sides of the Mediterranean in the 3rd century AD. Wifek Aouinet will tell us her story and the different facets of her legend that she left behind in the West and the East.

Wifek Aouinet has a doctorate in classical philology and was formerly a classics teacher in Strasbourg. She is now Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) in Malta, where she teaches French as a foreign language (FLE). She also works as a cultural mediator for the UNHCR.
