Défi Inter-Alliances 2026
Represent the Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée and try to win a trip to Brussels!
The DÉFI 2026 is back! This major international cultural competition, organised by the Fondation des Alliances Françaises, brings together hundreds of Alliances Françaises around the world for a quiz on French and Francophone cultures.
In 2026, the challenge will take you to the international grand final, which will be held at the Alliance Française de Bruxelles-Europe in July 2026.
Local and national selections will take place between 1 March and 17 May, so register now!

🌍 What is the DÉFI?
The DÉFI is a general knowledge quiz conducted entirely in French.
This is a unique opportunity to:
- Meet other French language enthusiasts
- Test your knowledge
- Practise your French in a different way
- Represent Malta in an international competition
👤 Who can participate?
To participate, you must:
- Be a student at the Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a minimum level of A2
- Not be a native French speaker
🏆 How does the competition work?
The DÉFI takes place in four stages:
1️⃣ Local selection – in Malta
A 20-question quiz to select our best candidates. The top two will represent the Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerranée in the next stage.
2️⃣ National selection by geographical area
The winners of the local selection will represent Malta in the selection by geographical area, alongside the winners from the Alliances Françaises in Italy and Monaco.
They will take part in a new online quiz to try to qualify for the international semi-final.
3️⃣ Semi-finals by geographical area
The best candidates from each country will take part in an international online semi-final.
4️⃣ International grand final – Brussels
The finalists from each geographical area will be invited to Brussels for a week of cultural immersion and to take part in the grand final in person at the Alliance Française Bruxelles-Europe.

🏅 The winner of the geographical zone will receive:
✈️ A return trip to Brussels, with accommodation and a daily allowance included
🎉 Participation in the international final
💰 How much does it cost?
Participation in the DÉFI Inter-Alliance 2026 is completely free of charge.
